Explain Everything—digital literacy diagram.

The diagram below was created using the digital whiteboard tool Explain Everything and illustrates potential in-class applications for each of the twelve sub-elements within ACARA’s Digital Literacy Continuum. Thomson (2015) highlights that most Australian students currently exceed proficiency levels in ICT literacy, which influenced my decision to incorporate a broad range of digital platforms and tools. This approach acknowledges that students are likely to have prior experience with many of these tools, or possess the digital fluency to quickly upskill. Newhouse (2013) notes that deep ICT capability involves using digital tools to “facilitate the completion of tasks” (p. 915), which guided my selection of tools that are not only relevant but also essential to addressing specific learning tasks. For example, students might use Canva to visualise a data set or Riverside to record a podcast, both of which support creative expression and facilitate peer learning.
